Day 40: Sex organs on their chests!

"Croatian women’s rights campaigner Sanja Sarnavka said the state prosecutor should not have sanctioned a financial settlement for a charge of rape, which carries a 15-year prison sentence in Croatia.
“If they can afford it, those who are indicted will pay for the best lawyers, pay the damages and receive a minimum sentence or even go free. In a democratic state, everyone should have the same treatment, regardless of their wealth or assets,” Ms Sarnavka told Croatian media last month.
Ms Sarnavka defended the victim’s decision to accept payment to avoid a protracted trial and relive the horrific encounter."

"Three Australian men who pled guilty to gang raping a 17-year-old girl while visiting Croatia have apparently paid around $22,000 (USD) to avoid jail time. Australia’s Brisbane Times reports that that Dylan Djohan, 23, Ashwin Kumar, 23, and Waleed Latif, 21 all agreed to pay a settlement to their Norwegian victim under a Croatian law that allows payment instead of a trial."

Kanye West Tweets that Bill Cosby is innocent.

Sentor Rubio said of pregnancies caused by rapes: "“It’s a terrible situation,” Rubio replied. “I mean, a crisis pregnancy, especially as a result of something as horrifying as that, I’m not telling you it’s easy. I’m not here saying it’s an easy choice. It’s a horrifying thing that you’ve just described.”
“I get it,” he added. “I really do. And that’s why this issue is so difficult. But I believe a human being, an unborn child has a right to live, irrespective of the circumstances of which they were conceived."

"Feminist playwrights in Seattle were served with two cease-and-desist letters for performing a new work that weaves together lines of dialogue from female characters in American plays."

"BTW, 64 percent of this year’s Super Bowl commercials gave women no speaking lines."

On Bev Katz's death in Hannibal. "Originally Bev was supposed to die in the first season but he decided against it since she wasn’t developed enough as a character. Instead he gives her more to do (although we still don’t know much about her life) only so her death will have more emotional impact for Jack and Will not because he a gave a fuck about her storyline on its own. It isn’t if you kill off a female character but how you kill her off that constitutes fridging. What has happened to the women in Hannibal is fridging. Bryan Fuller didn’t care about Bev’s life only about how her death would impact the men around her."

Article on Hannibal and its women: 'We’ve had Abigail Hobbs be a pawn in a mind game for Hannibal only to end up being killed to frame Will and for him to doubt himself. She never gained any agency she was just thrust between the desires of men who had more power than her. Miriam Lass also had a similar dynamic and is dead. Bella played by the amazing Gina fucking Torres only exists as a physical reminder for Jack’s personal problems. She’s not a character, she’s a mirror. Beverly Katz was the only woman of color in the main cast and she was a character I really gravitated to. But they had to drop her IQ down to kill her. '

White background, black text: That girl you just called fat? Who cares about her backstory, you just shouldn't be a dick to people. Like do we really need a tragic story to get people to stop being mean to each other wtf"

Another man comments on a post about women not being allowed to age. "Lets see if you smoke cigarrettes, drink a lit of alcohol, sun tan or go to a tanning salon of course your going to age quicker than another person who does less or none of those things. Has nothing to do with gender theres no societal rule stating men are allowed to age and women are not."

"A couple of weeks ago I went to buy mascara and the lady at the make up counter told me I should be ashamed to leave the house without make up because I'm so pale. She said I never know when I will pass a man who will possibly want me so I should have make up in when I leave the house."

A man comments on a post about men being allowed to age and women being told they're ugly. "Golly gee. There must be no women who have "aged" who are alive, still married, still employed, still get to enjoy what's promised on the bill of rights, allowed to run for president, or any of the other things I see "aged" women doing every day! How do I get rid of the hallucinations I've apparently been having my entire life....? Oh wait, sorry to freak out there for a second folks...I didn't realize I was just reading another meaningless, pointlessly divisive post."

"This just reminded me of another story. When i was about 19 or so, i was severely depressed and had been crying a lot, but had to go to UPS to send a package. I was wearing baggy taekwondo pants and a shirt and my hair was down, not brushed. These 3 guys behind me began catcalling me, so i turn around to see who the fk is being such assholes, and then they called me ugly... literally, they said i was ugly."

"I set up a blind date once at a party with a pretty friend of mine who is also a beautiful person.... my guy friend told me afterwards that she was too old. If I'm going to judge off looks, honestly, i felt i did him a huge favor cause he's far from perfect. Yet, because she had a lot of smile lines, he wouldn't even talk to her. "

When I was engaged to Brandon, we told our landlords. The man turned to my fiance and said "Why buy the cow when you can get the cow for free?"

Women are not outside for your amusement."

"But women have sex organs on their chests! I don't walk around with my pants off!"

A man comments on Laverne Cox's statement on the Wendy show: ""I want to talk about being trans, but I don't want to talk about the TRANSition"
Yup and you wonder why few people take you seriously."

Wendy interview with Laverne Cox.
Wendy: You've got breast implants?
Laverne: Off camera, I can talk to you, but I've chosen not to talk about any of the stuff I've gotten done, because I think so often when trans people's experiences are talked about, we far too often focus on surgery and transition, so I don't talk about that.

Tweet: "Misandry is a joke used by women to vent frustration. Misogyny is an expression of hatred backed by power. They are not equal."

On associating Hillary with her husband in terms of her political success. "But linking women to their husbands is a tried-and-true sexist practice that discounts women’s autonomy and reinforces outmoded ways of thinking about compulsory heterosexuality and male authority. Using Bill Clinton’s administration to demarcate how Hillary would perform as president is patently sexist, and undermines the concept of a critical approach: that a person who is being careful on the issues may shift her stance over time. Obama was applauded when he “evolved” on marriage, so it’s not like there isn’t a recent precedent for changing one’s mind. Also, Clinton has effectively pushed Sanders more to the left on his gun control policy, so why isn’t he being castigated as a weak flip-flopper?"

On Clinton: "Eight years as the Senator from New York, four years as Secretary of State, eight years as First Lady, and decades of work on minor’s rights (she worked on clarifying the law around emancipated minor statuses) and women’s rights—and instead of talking about how this positions her to serve well on both domestic and foreign policy issues, The Washington Post ponders if her experience is “a liability.” And in part she is framed as having too much history"

On Clinton: "Even as she’s tried to make fun of her favored blue pantsuits, she’s not allowed to yell or ramble, as Sanders does, lest she be viewed as “aggressive.” More recently, even though she carefully avoided declaring victory the night of the Iowa caucus, instead saying she was breathing a sigh of relief, many people interpreted her words as just such a declaration and then disparaged her by calling her a liar."

More on how we see Clinton only through a sexist lense. "Way back in 1988, when she was First Lady of Arkansas, a syndicated piece ran about her with the headline “Hillary: The good, the bad, the dress size.” During Bill’s presidential campaign, right-leaning media outlets made remarks about her hair style and a headband she wore on a 60 Minutes interview, an apparent fashion faux pas that people commented on for more than a year. By 1995 she even joked, “If I want to knock a story off the front page, I just change my hair style.” Because she had a law degree and her own career, right-wing pundits wondered openly how she would have power beyond the more behind-the-scenes duties of other First Ladies. She confirmed their fears when she took the lead of a task force to establish universal health care coverage, a platform Bill had campaigned on. “When that plan went down to defeat, many people assigned her a large share of the blame,” said Paul Starr, a senior health policy adviser in the Clinton White House.

When Newsweek ran a cover story about how Bill turned to her for advice on a nominee that required Senate confirmation (the shock of the leader of the free world asking a woman for advice!), the magazine presumed that this was a sign of his weakness and her overreach—even calling her “First Lady Plus.” Several media outlets questioned whether Hillary was, in effect, an unelected second President. "

Article on how we see Clinton. "One of the issues playing out this primary cycle is how sexism affects our understanding of Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is enacting this sexism, and to what degree. I think it’s important to understand, amid the current hostility of both Democratic front-runners’ campaigns, that we only know Ms. Clinton through a sexist lens. Sexism is ingrained in the way we think about Clinton—yes, even for self-described feminists and progressives, sexism colors the way we see Hillary. First, let’s look at the history of attacks against her."

Article on being told to vote for Clinton cause you're female. "Suddenly, this sexist notion that my voting decision had already been made for me the day I was born wasn't just something that guy from accounting joked about while trying to make small talk at the water cooler. With Albright's comments, the issue has become very real and frankly, I'm mad as hell.
According to the New York Times, Albright used her famous and beloved phrase, "There's a special place in hell for women who don't help other women," to turn young female voters away from the Bernie side"

A bunch of commenters on the article about a girl getting shot, all of them male, make the article about gun control. Not about men killing women for refusing to date them.

Commenter on an article about a girl getting shot for saying no. "He gets fired for harrassing a co-worker over an extended period of time and then the day he gets fired he goes out, buys a gun for the first time, and nobody is the wiser. What, is the murdered woman another martryr offered up on the alter of the freedom of arms manufacturers to make ever increasing profits?"

"O'Kroley told a detective "that it was easy to kill Caroline," according to the complaint.
"He later added he killed her out of anger because she had 'ruined my life,'" it continues. O'Kroley apparently described himself to police as a "sociopath," and told cops he wanted to kill Nosal before killing himself."

"Conservative logic:
It is the woman's responsibility to prevent rape by covering up and carrying a gun.
It is the woman's responsibility to prevent pregnancy by keeping her legs closed.
It is the woman's responsibility to prevent abortion by carrying the child to term.
It is the man's responsibility to decide and define a woman's responsibility."

"Sex assault complainants are held to a standard of consistency and precision in the telling of their rapes that is inhuman. Almost two decades ago, the so-called Jane Doe Audit of Police Sexual Assault Practices confirmed that memory and recall operate differently in the crime of sexual assault. This doesn’t mean the crime didn’t happen. Our response to trauma is a primal reaction to threat. Our brains click into survival mode and are not creating an instantaneous catalogue of events.
Moreover, in a world of gender inequality where being raped stigmatizes the victim, we often minimize, deny and compartmentalize. There is a constellation of human responses to cope with trauma and shame. Yet the criminal trial has not adjusted. Inconsistencies on peripheral or extraneous matters routinely result in acquittals: why is her incorrect recollection of the colour of the bedspread an indicator of whether the rape truly happened or not?"

Article on the Ghomeshi case: "The work of researchers such as David Tanovich and Elaine Craig shows that despite reforms to sexual assault laws, there is a yawning chasm between the black letter law and what happens in the courtroom. Sexual assault witnesses continue to be held to a standard of behaviour that is out of step with how rape survivors respond in real life.
Their credibility continues to be attacked on the basis of legally rejected stereotypes about women and sex: “What were you wearing?” “Isn’t it true you were flirting with him all night?” “If you were raped, you wouldn’t have sent him an email the next day or week, correct?” “You said you had two drinks with him, but wasn’t it really three?” “Why didn’t you scream, punch, hit and kick?” “Why did you let him drive you home when it was over? Or see him the next day?” Judges don’t interfere in this line of questioning because these questions are permitted. In fact, they’re the core of the rape trial cross-examination script.
Do we ask the man whose house was robbed if he left his curtains open to invite the robber? If he already knew the robber and wanted this to happen?"

Man defends continuing defining people as virgins. " I'd argue that the concept of virginity was created to save lives. Just as recently as 100 years ago (not long in terms of human history) pregnancy had a good chance of a death sentence and few STD's were treatable. Al Capone himself died of syphilis."

Men who say makeup is "false advertising" need to be aggressively reminded that women aren't products.

"Google the phrase "beautiful woman"
Then click on images and see how far down you have to scroll until you see a woman of color. any color. Not tanned white women either."
