Day 60: When You Put Her in the Trunk

Dear Girls: Don't be afraid of your inner bitch, there are moments when you need her wisdom and bravery.

A friend posts asking people not to tag her in pictures of her or the kids so her ex can't find her.

Another friend talks about why she didn't leave her abusive ex until now, pointing out that she must now constantly look over her shoulder and live in a new type of fear.

Last night a friend talked about getting her friend out of a situation where the woman was being choked by her partner in front of her toddler.

"On the one hand, I actually felt extra confident and attractive with the heavier makeup on. It's not that I'm preaching that all women should put on a full face everyday, but I must admit that I felt like a totally revved-up version of myself. But on the other hand, I realized that most of the comments regarding my looks came from guys."

"Male customer hands me money to pay for both him and the woman in front of him. She firmly says no, she doesn't want him to pay and hands me her cash. The man tells me not to accept it. He says to me, "Come on. I'm the MAN. I have to pay." I quietly apologize, but accept her money for her order because she clearly doesn't want him to pay for her.
A moment after I accept the money from her, the man says, "I hate your guts right now...And I was going to give you a really big tip." I thought maybe he was joking, but he just continued to remain angry despite being jolly and friendly with me just moments earlier AND HE DIDN'T TIP US despite ordering both a sandwich and a blended drink."

A person posts a joke about a drunk husband who comes home and beats his wife, and she goes to doctor who prescribes her special tea to hold in mouth when husband comes home drunk. In a week she comes back to doctor, happy and all that she doesn't get beaten anymore. And the doctor says "see, how helpful it is to shut your mouth sometimes?"

Prepare your daughter for working life. Give her less pocket money than your son.

"Last month, a Saudi prince made headlines the world over when he was accused of sexually assaulting a maid and threatening to kill those who refused his advances. When asked to stop, the prince allegedly screamed, "I am a prince and I do what I want."

"While three out of the eight Best Picture nominees star women (four, if you count the ensemble drama Spotlight), the majority of the films that won at Sunday night's show had male leads: The Revenant, Bridge of Spies, The Big Short, Spectre, etc. Sure, some female-led movies picked up prizes, like Room and Amy, but, like most years, the Oscars felt predominantly male-oriented — that is, until Mad Max came into the picture. The Charlize Theron-starring action film (let's face it, Tom Hardy played second fiddle) picked up a whopping six Oscars, along with four more nominations. That's the largest number of Oscars won by any movie at the 2016 show, even The Revenant or Spotlight — and they went to a film all about women, made by a largely female crew."

" Fairygodboss also determined the worst industries for women to work in, and they're not exactly stereotypical either. While tech and finance offices may be known as breeding grounds for bros, those were both in the middle; the worst were the aerospace, industrial, and automotive industries."

An add for having more volume in my hair. The model is topless with her arms over her chest and her fingers in her hair.

"Clue, a new app designed by Ida Tin, wants to help women remove the stigma of how women talk about and perceive their periods. According to research from the app and the International Women’s Health Coalition, a large majority of women still use euphemisms to describe their menstrual cycle. “Aunt Flo” and the Clueless-inspired “riding the Crimson wave” are likely the most familiar to the English-speaking world"

"In a new post on her blog on Monday, Jade Roper revealed that she was raped as a teenager. She decided to tell her story after Lady Gaga's moving Oscars performance of "Til It Happens To You," and admitted that she wasn't surprised at all about the statistics that were shared during the performance about the frequency of sexual assault. Since this is something Jade has never talked about before, it's pretty shocking news"

"You were raped months ago. It can't possibly still bother you."

"Last May, O’Reilly’s daughter told a court that she saw Bill choking his wife and then dragged her down the stairs. Bill O’Reilly attempted to smear his wife by calling her an “adulterer” and also told his daughter that spending time with her mother would ruin her life. Bill and his wife divorced in September 2011."

The vice president called himself “the least qualified man” in the room and introduced Lady Gaga before she sang her song ‘Til It Happens to You,” which is featured on the documentary “The Hunting Ground.”
“Too many men and women around the country are still victims of sexual abuse,” Biden said. “We must and we can change the culture so that no sexual abuse survivor thinks they did anything wrong.”
Gaga's candid, emotional performance was a significant moment in Oscar history."
